Hey y'all, I just wanted to let you know I'm still alive and kicking. I have taken a short break the past few months to plan my upcoming wedding (which is almost here!) but have swaps planned for late October (Homemade Food Swap) and November (Handmade Art & Gift Swap) so stay tuned for those.
As always, if you know about any swaps you would like to get the word out for let me know. I want Swap It Oakland to be a place you can come to find out about all swap events in Oakland not just ones we put on.

Tickets are $5 each swapper.
This helps me cover some costs for materials and advertising for the event. It also insures people who sign up for a swap spot are serious swappers who will show up the day of the event.
Please remember to let me know what you plan on bringing to swap and give an email address I can contact you at if needed.
Want more info on what to expect at the swap? Check our our "How Food Swaps Work" page.

Getting Ready for the Spring Homemade Food Swap
The Spring 2013 Homemade Food Swap is just about a week away (April 14th) and I am so excited! I can't wait to show off what I have been whipping up and check out what you all bring to the table.
This swap is currently FULL, but if you are interested in swapping with us in the future make sure you sign up for the email list (in the right column of this blog) to be notified first when spaces open up for the next one.
If you DID get a spot you should have received an email with detailed information about the swap, swap location, etc. If you didn't get it (or it got sent to your trash folder) shoot me an email (kendra.poma@gmail.com) and I'll send you another one. Also, let me know if you won't be able to make it so someone on the waiting list can join us instead.
Here is our current list of items you can expect to see at the swap:
(please let me know if you have any changes to your list of items you plan on bringing)
Almond milk
Pickled vegetables (all sorts including sauerkraut & kimchi)
Fruit Jams, Syrups, & Sauces
Yogurts (labne & goats milk)
Hot sauces
Ghee
Fermented drinks & edibles
Backyard eggs
candied & preserved citrus
Pestos and herb sauces
Granola
Soups
Fresh produce
Homemade "Lara" bars (raw date & nut snack bars)
Chocolate Truffles
Herbal candies
Herbal Tea blends
Herbal Salves
Shampoo & Soap bars
Face scrubs & masks
Lotions
What am I working on?
I have been working hard for months (well, years really) creating tasty Herbal Medicinal Tea blends and I'm really proud to be able to share them with you at this swap. I will be swapping blends for Digestion, Active Infection (for when you are sick or healing a wound), Nerve Calming Night Time tea, and a hormone balancing Woman's tea.
I personally have grown & dried most of the herbs that go in to these tea blends. A LOT of plant material goes in to these teas which isn't very apparent when all the plant material has been dried and packaged. Some of the herbs added are rare & expensive but are very powerful so these are once I thought important to purchase & add in the blends.
I will also have some amazing Herbal Salve which is great for healing wounds, rashes, acne, diaper rash, athletes foot, fungal infections, etc.
And finally, I will be making some deliciously healing Herbal Candies & Sodas.
What are YOU working on for the swap? Feel free to leave a comment & let us all know!

What to bring
• Food to swap: All swap items must be homemade, homegrown, or foraged by you. Think preserves, baked goods, fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, condiments, beverages… you name it! Bring as little or as much as you like. You can bring a bunch of one thing or multiples of a few different things. The possibilities are endless!
Keep in mind that swappers will be examining and picking up your goods, so be sure to package them in a way that protects the food and makes it clear the amounts you want to swap. When applicable, it is recommended that you include storage and shelf life information..
• Samples: Make sure to bring samples of all your items for everyone to taste. We will not be able to provide any kitchen items at this location so MAKE SURE TO BRING EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR YOUR SAMPLES. (ex: napkins, cups, knife, toothpicks)
• Swap card: Bring one swap card for each different item you’re swapping.
